Subjects are arranged in alphabetic order, and the level for each subject is shown.
Students normally take 4 AS levels or 2 BTEC Level 2 courses. In addition all students take part in Recreation PE and in Personal Development through Tutor Time, Assemblies and other events/activities.
Subjects are arranged in 5 blocks, with BTEC courses taking up two blocks. BTECs are also grouped Mon-Tue and Thu-Fri to allow students who wish to do so to join courses from the ‘On From 16’ programme.

Performing Arts / Production AS Level
Autumn Term 2008 ~ First Half Term: Unit 1: Exploring Skills for Performance. Students perform a scripted piece and assess their acting skills. They then follow a programme of different workshops in order to improve their acting and technical skills.
Autumn Term 2008 ~ Second Half Term: Unit 1: Exploring Skills for Performance. Students continue to improve their skills and assess how these skills are developing through practical workshops and written coursework.
Spring Term 2009 ~ First Half Term: Unit 2: Planning for an Event. Students plan a performance and series of workshops for a local primary school. They keep a record of their planning decisions and hand this in as coursework.
Spring Term 2009 ~ Second Half Term: Unit 1: Exploring Skills for Performance. Students perform a scripted piece to assess their skills development since the start of the course. They also assist GCSE performers with technical skills.
Summer Term 2009 ~ First Half Term: Unit 3: Performing to a Commission. Students respond to a commission set by the exam board and develop an examined performance to meet the needs of this commission. Students can choose to either offer acting or technical skills as their specialism.
Summer Term 2009 ~ Second Half Term: Preparation for A2 Performing Arts. An introduction to the Performing Arts industry.
Performing Arts BTEC Level 2 Diploma
Autumn Term 2008 ~ First Half Term: Acting assignment A - Pupils are introduced to a series of workshops that will improve their vocal and movement skills. They are then put these skills into practise by performing a scripted piece. Business assignment A - Pupils research the areas of business in the performing arts industry and make a presentation of their findings.
Autumn Term 2008 ~ Second Half Term: Acting assignment B/Devised A - Pupils devise a 20 minute performance based on a stimulus from the teacher to help y11 with their devised pieces for their exam. They evaluate the performance and keep a log book of all the different conventions used and take part in a Q&A session with y11. Crewing A/B. Pupils are introduced to the technical aspect of the theatre. They learn and take on a backstage role in a performance evening. Scripted A - Pupils research and take part in pantomime workshops which teach them how to use pantomime skills for the stage. They perform a pantomime at the Christmas event. They evaluate the process and the performance and set themselves targets.
Spring Term 2009 ~ First Half Term: Business B - Pupils are introduced on how to Budget and Market for a performing arts event. They will work with an imaginary budget and take charge of marketing an event in school. Devised B - Pupils learn about Theatre in Education and learn about some of the theatre practitioners of TIE. They then devise a performance for
Spring Term 2009 ~ Second Half Term: Scripted B - Pupils learn about the theatre practitioner Brecht and take part in a series of workshops that introduce them to his ideas about theatre. They then work on a script using methods and ideas from Brecht.
Summer Term 2009 ~ First Half Term: The Performing Production Process - Pupils learn about how to organise an event. They then organise it, each having different roles and run it, being in charge on the night.

Theatre Studies/Drama AS Level
Autumn Term 2008 ~ First Half Term: Unit 1: Exploration of Drama & Theatre (6341): Students will begin to study their first play from this unit. Areas of study include plot, language, form and structure, visual aural and spatial elements and contextualising the play. Practical activities will assess use of voice and physical actions and understanding of the themes and issues covered in the play.
Autumn Term 2008 ~ Second Half Term: Unit 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre (6341): Students will continue with their study of the play Crap Dad. This unit will culminate in a performance at 6th Form Drama Evening. Students will then begin to study the 2nd play, 'Five Kinds of Silence'.
Spring Term 2009 ~ First Half Term: Unit 1: Text Exploration of Drama and Theatre (6341): Students will continue their study of the play 'Five Kinds of Silence'. The deadline for all written coursework for this unit is at the end of this half term.
Spring Term 2009 ~ Second Half Term: Unit 2: Text in Performance (6342): Students will be rehearsing for an examined performance of a scripted play.
Summer Term 2009 ~ First Half Term: Unit 2: Text in Performance (6342): Students will be rehearsing for an examined performance of a scripted play. The examination will take place at the end of this half term.
Summer Term 2009 ~ Second Half Term: Unit 3: text In Context (6343): Lessons will be used to prepare for the written exam in June/July. Revision will include analysing how the students prepared as actors for their performance in unit 2 and how they were directed. Students will also attend a live performance during this half term which they will have to comment on in their exam.
